On Tuesday, February 13, 2024, the 4th Annual Reggae Icon Awards 2024 is poised to captivate audiences at the Miramar Cultural Center – Banquet Hall in Florida. Hosted by the esteemed Miramar Vice Mayor, Alexandra P. Davis, this collaborative venture between Miramar and Jamaica seeks to spotlight the profound impact of reggae icons who have left an indelible mark on the global music landscape.

The evening’s festivities, overseen by Judge Norman Hemming, will commence at 7:30 pm. The highlight of the night will be on three exceptional figures who have significantly shaped the reggae industry. The Reggae Icon Award will be bestowed upon the internationally acclaimed Reggae artist Patrick Barrett, famously known as Tony Rebel, OD. With a musical career spanning decades, Tony Rebel has consistently delivered resonant offerings that have garnered widespread acclaim along with his world-renowned brand, Rebel Salute.

The Lifetime Achievement Award will pay tribute to the remarkable career of Judith “Judy” Mowatt, OD. Recognizing her enduring impact on reggae both as a solo artist and a member of the I-Threes alongside Bob Marley, this prestigious accolade acknowledges the continued resonance of her voice and message through generations.

The Marcus Garvey Award will honour the exceptional talents of Allan Hope CD, also known as Mutabaruka. A poet, musician, and cultural ambassador, Mutabaruka’s dedication to reggae, coupled with his tireless advocacy for social justice and cultural preservation, makes him a true embodiment of the Marcus Garvey spirit.

In a statement to Prism Marketing Consultants, Vice Mayor Alexandra P. Davis conveyed her sentiments: “The Reggae Icon Awards 2024 presents a unique opportunity to pay homage to the trailblazers who have shaped reggae music and culture. It’s a celebration of their achievements and a recognition of the profound impact of reggae on our society. This event serves as a fusion of Black History Month and Reggae Month, celebrating the rich heritage and contributions of the black community and the global influence of reggae. I am forever grateful to Jamaica, the land of my heritage, for the gift it has given to the world.”

Admission to this prestigious event is free, although seating is limited. The occasion promises an unforgettable celebration of reggae’s rich heritage and global influence.
