Currently embroiled in a legal battle with disbarred Attorney-at-law Jennifer Messado, dancehall star Mavado appears to be shifting his focus back to the music.
On Friday, the Gully Gad surprised his over 715,000 subscribers on Youtube with a new visual for “Pain“, a joint effort featuring longtime friend and former campmate Dexta Daps and up-and-comer Jay-A.
Produced by Sponge Music and Mansions Records, the single speaks to their rough upbringing and gritty street life, a familiar tale told by those hailing from the less fortunate side of society. Set against the backdrop of Miami’s urban streets, the video captures the song’s essence with its dark imagery.
Released less than 24 hours ago, the official video has amassed over 103,000 views via Mavado’s channel and continues to see an uptick in metrics.
Meanwhile, with the spate of financial fraud plaguing the Jamaican society, the dancehall hitmaker recently added his voice to the conversation calling out those in positions of authority for their lack of action and accountability. He wrote,
“Jamaica full of white collar criminal and the government is not doing anything about it because the peop who’s taking your money are friends of the bosses who runs the country and who makes the talk and support white collar crime against the people..who came from nothing to something.”
He further states that “under this government you will never see the real criminals goes to jail as long as they come from up town where everyone goes to the same school and grow up together….. we have to pray because it’s a serious thing and it’s getting worse because now dem getting very dry eye with it so who’s going to save u.”
His comments came after U$12.7 million went missing from retired Sprint King Usain Bolt’s account at Stocks & Securities Limited, SSL, which is now being investigated by the authorities.
Ironically, Mavado is also a victim of fraud. After disbarred, Attorney-at-law Jennifer Messado defrauded him of approximately J$30 million in a 2017 real estate transaction. His Lawyer, Oswest Senior-Smith, had communicated that the entertainer should know by March whether or not he would get back his money.
