On Friday, February 10, Masicka released his latest single, “Pieces“, featuring fellow dancehall artiste Jahshii, to much fanfare.
However, while the project was highly anticipated, the label on which it was released is even more interesting. A quick scan of the granular detail reveals that the song was outputting by Def Jam Recordings.
Who is Def Jam Recordings? The company is an American multinational record label owned by Universal Music Group, Based in Manhattan, New York City and specializes predominantly in hip hop, contemporary R&B, soul and pop. The label has a London-based, UK arm known as 0207 Def Jam and is currently operated through EMI Record.
Based on the revelation, it’s safe to say Masicka has officially inked a deal with the American music imprint, though he has yet to confirm the news. A recent post on his official Instagram account affirms the aforementioned, where he published the cover art for the new single.
