Canadian rapper, Drake, known for his love of Jamaican culture, threw a lavish party over the weekend to celebrate his mother, Sandi Graham’s 75th birthday.
The rapper, who recently collaborated with Popcaan on the album “Great Is He” and featured on the track “We Caa Done“, went all out to make this a memorable celebration for his beloved mother. The festivities were attended by family and friends, including his father, Dennis Graham, and son, Adonis.
Drake took to social media to share pictures and videos from the purple-lit celebration. In one clip posted on his Instagram Story, he noted, “Happy birthday, Bubby“, as Sandi stood behind him. The rapper couldn’t help but remark on how good his mother looked and got on the mic to toast her. Stating, “It’s been a long journey. My favourite part about today was just how good you look.”
The celebration was a family affair as Drake and his son Adonis donned matching grey suits while snapping a father-son picture in the photo booth. Adonis also got on the mic and gave an endearing speech, saying, “I love her so much,” before hugging his grandmother. The 5-year-old’s sweet gesture brought smiles to everyone’s faces.
Drake’s parents, who divorced when he was five years old, came together for a family portrait that included their grandson. The picture was a touching moment for the family and showed that despite their differences, family comes first.
Drake penned a heartfelt message on Instagram to commemorate the special occasion and pay tribute to his mother. He wrote,
“Thank you mama for the 9 months you carried me through…all the pain and suffering. No one knows the pressure you bear just only you…give you all my love,” and signed off as “Kalonji.”
The quote is taken from Sizzla’s hit song “Thank U Mama“, released as an offering on his most successful album to date, “Da Real Thing“.
