On Wednesday afternoon, scores of mourners and members of the press community gathered at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church for the funeral of renowned and beloved broadcaster Francois St Juste.
After battling a protracted illness, St. Juste passed away on August 29 at the University Hospital of the West Indies. He was 60 years old at the time of his death.
At this afternoon’s ceremony, reggae vocalist Duane Stephenson delivered a musical paean to the veteran broadcaster and former general manager at the beginning of the service, followed by spoken tributes from Rosamund Brown, a former colleague and friend at Fame FM; Karsten Johnson, president of the Rotary Club of Kingston; and Dr. Claire Grant, general manager of Television Jamaica and Radio Services at the RJRGLEANER Communications Group.
Grant lauded St. Juste, “King of Radio”, for his contributions to radio’s evolution and FAME FM’s retooling. She also said that she is confident that St. Juste is now “organising the heavenly party scene.”
Simone Clarke-Cooper, a former FAME colleague and presenter, delivered the remarkable tribute, in which she praised St. Juste for being a transforming figure, an agent of change, and a rock for everyone he met.
Francois St Juste, renowned for his iconic voice and addictive sense of humour, worked as a broadcaster and host at FAME 95 FM with a career spanning over 38 years.
