Following the detention and subsequent release of dancehall superstar Popcaan on Tuesday by immigration officials in the United Kingdom, the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has moved to furnish clarity on the travel impediment being faced by the artiste.
According to the JCF, Popcaan has been issued a “green notice” by Interpol (International Criminal Police Organization). The initial notice was issued seven years ago (2015) and reaffirmed again in 2018. The police also used the opportunity to clear the Jamaican Government of any misconduct relating to the entertainer.
The notices resulted from separate marijuana and cocaine charges brought against the Unruly Boss in Barbados. Adding further clarity, the local lawmen explained that the “green notice” is meant to serve as a warning of previous interactions with law enforcement.
Popcaan, whose given name is Andre Sutherland, was deported to Jamaica in 2009 after being convicted of marijuana possession in Barbados, according to a statement released by the Jamaica Constabulary Force Wednesday afternoon. The report adds that Popcaan was again arrested in 2011 in Barbados for Possession of Cocaine.
Since the revelation, Popcaan’s attorney, Bert Samuels, has threatened to pursue legal action against the Jamaica Constabulary Force for what he deems their statement to be an “entire falsehood.”
