Former Member of Parliament (MP) for St Mary Western, Jolyan Silvera, came under scrutiny in January 2017 for his comments about dancehall icons Bounty Killer and Ninja Man, who were invited as guests to a national security ministry initiative aimed at boosting morale within the department. Silvera questioned the appropriateness of having individuals facing legal issues, stating,
“Motivational speakers for the JCF and other heads of Department for National Security yesterday morning at the conference center. Now you tell me. One on a murder charge and one was charged for beating a female with a hammer.”
At that time, the police force was actively working towards creating a safer and prosperous Jamaica. The event, hosted at the Jamaica Conference Centre, featured both dancehall artists providing a special empowerment seminar with their perspectives on achieving the desired goals.
Fast-forward to 2024, and Mr. Jolyan Silvera, once a representative of the People’s National Party (PNP), finds himself entangled in legal troubles. He has been charged with murder as investigations into his wife’s death intensify. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Fitz Bailey confirmed Silvera’s custody and stated that he had been questioned by the Major Investigation Division (MID). The police upgraded their probe after a post-mortem examination revealed that Melissa, Silvera’s wife, had been shot at least three times, contradicting earlier reports of her passing in her sleep on November 10, 2023.
Responding to the news, dancehall stalwart Bounty Killer took to Instagram, expressing a sense of karma, given Silvera’s previous comments about him and Ninja Man. The Warlord wrote, “Karma is my favorite b*tch she f**ks everybody watch what this little weak insecure gyal clown ya Joylan Silvera did said about me and @ninjaman_music whilst making a great effort five ago a wah yu deh pon now idiot e dawg dem shall meet and greet yu bl**dclaath inna di penn now pooosie🤔”
Supporting Bounty’s sentiments, a commenter remarked, “Watch Karma at her finest. He who flung Stones, have the whole truck load a gravel try hide and it tumble right over on him r*ss!!! Ninja a guh greet him.”
In response to the charges, Jolyan Silvera, now a one-term MP, has enlisted the services of a prominent attorney as he faces legal proceedings.
