While social media has been abuzz with criticism over dancehall artiste Blak Ryno’s hairstyle choices, the Gaza alumnus has been diligently labouring in the recording studio, curating new musical endeavours.
Expressing his aspirations for the new year, Ryno reveals a commitment to elevating his career, promising a slew of fresh releases in the coming months. In an interview with Prism Marketing Consultants, he discloses the commencement of work on a new album, though he refrained from providing a definitive timeline for its official release.
I am working on a lot of new material right now; as we speak, I am travelling from LA back to New York and a straight studio setting when we reach. A new album is also in the works but can’t really say much bout that right now. But as me seh! a just work a deh suh di thing deh right now.” affirms Ryno.
The recent social media frenzy, triggered by a video featuring the artist addressing an issue with music producer Rvssian while flat ironing his hair, has given rise to a viral challenge dubbed ‘#RocknRyno.’ Conceived by Fame FM’s DJ Franco, the challenge involves DJs remixing Blak Ryno’s classic hits over Rock and Heavy Metal instrumentals. Noteworthy participants include ZJ Sparks and Barbados’s DJ Puffy, with almost twenty versions of the challenge emerging.

DJ Franco explains, “The idea struck me as I watched the video of Ryno straightening his hair, and I decided to bring it to life. The positive reception led me to challenge some friends, and the rest, as they say, is history, oh! and we will be releasing a mixtape with all the cut of the remixes.” he told Prism Marketing Consultants.
Acknowledging the challenge, Ryno notes an upswing in interest surrounding his music since the release of the viral video.
The “Seet Deh” singjay initially gained prominence in 2007 with his distinctive singing style and lyrical prowess. Despite his undeniable talent and a catalogue of hits, he has grappled with visibility since a contentious fallout with Gaza camp chief Vybz Kartel over a decade ago.
