Dancehall artiste Malie Donn disclosed that he was fielding interest from multiple major record labels, potentially on the verge of securing a significant deal. However, this opportunity was hindered due to certain challenges associated with his immensely popular hit, “V6.”
The Portmore-based deejay acknowledged that he had the chance to finalize a deal with one label. Still, he was awaiting the emergence of a song with the magnitude and impact of “V6” before proceeding. In a candid interview, Malie Donn revealed that after the success of “V6,” the label displayed keen interest in the track. Unfortunately, a deal could not be brokered because he did not possess the rights to the song’s master, and the producer was unwilling to sell it to the label.
Malie Donn articulated the situation, stating, “We were waiting on a song like ‘V6’ before we sign, but unfortunately, the person who owns ‘V6’, like the Master, they wish not to sell ‘V6’ to a label and the label want me. But the label are invested in ‘V6’… dem interested and invested dem main focus is ‘V6’ because dem see the numbers weh it a do naturally.”
Despite the aforementioned hiccup, Malie Donn confirmed that the label was actively exploring potential solutions to circumvent this complex situation.
Notably, ‘V6’ emerged as one of the biggest dancehall hits of the summer, amassing over 19 million views on YouTube and securing its place on various prestigious charts across the diaspora. The track continued to maintain an uptick in popularity.
