Jamaican dancehall artist Squash has re-emerged on the social media platform Instagram after a hiatus, addressing concerns about his arrest in Florida.Â
The entertainer, given name Andre Whittaker, was arrested in June by U.S. border patrol agents for alleged visa overstay violations. While he did not address these allegations directly, Squash posted photos of himself looking content, holding two children, flaunting his pearly white teeth, and displaying a considerable sum of money on a bed.
Squash’s return to social media follows his mother, Shelly-ann Millwood, reassuring the public that the artist was not incarcerated. She dispelled rumours about legal issues, asserting that Squash had no charges or cases abroad and was in good spirits.Â
Originally from Salt Spring, St. James, the deejay had relocated to Florida amidst allegations of association with criminal activities in Jamaica, including gangs and lottery scamming. He has consistently denied these claims, asserting that harassment by corrupt police was the primary reason for his relocation.
This development comes after Squash’s connection to a man arrested for a double murder in Lauderhill, Florida, last year. Jahreme ‘J Man’ Shelton, Squash’s producer, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder. Squash had maintained a low profile since June when news of his arrest for immigration violations first surfaced.
This situation underscores the complexities surrounding immigration, with discussions in Florida about comprehensive immigration reforms, including stricter measures and increased scrutiny of individuals’ immigration status.
