Incarcerated dancehall star Vybz Kartel and his co-accused may have their appeal against their murder convictions heard by the Privy Council in the United Kingdom as early as April 2024.
Prism Marketing Consultants understands that the Privy Council has provisionally set April 16, 17, and 18, 2024 dates for the appeal proceedings. Bert Samuels, the attorney representing Vybz Kartel, confirmed the news and expressed optimism about the upcoming hearing while speaking with Irie FM.
“There has been a provisional date set for April of next year 16, 17 and 18 for two and a half days of the appeal for Shawn Campbell, Adidja Palmer and two other appellants in the Privy Council.” Samuels disclosed.
He acknowledged that the dates could potentially change but emphasized the hope for a successful outcome,
“This date is not permanent. It may be changed, but we are happy to know that finally, this matter will be heard by the high court, the Privy Council. So it’s April 16, 17 and 18, 2024, next year; we hope that the appeal will be heard and we will be victorious.” – He added.
Vybz Kartel, Shawn Campbell, Kahira Jones, and Andre St. John were convicted by a jury in 2014 for the murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams in 2011. Kartel was sentenced to life imprisonment with a requirement to serve 35 years before parole eligibility, while the other men were given life sentences with a minimum of 25 years before parole eligibility.
Following an unsuccessful bid in the Court of Appeal, the men appealed their case to the Privy Council, Jamaica’s final appellate court. The upcoming hearing in the Privy Council represents a significant development in their ongoing legal battle.
The April 2024 dates set for the appeal provide a renewed sense of hope for Vybz Kartel and his co-accused as they seek a favourable outcome in their quest for justice.
