Boulevard Baptist Church will host the funeral service for Mrs. Claudette V. Kemp, the late manager of renowned Rastafarian entertainer Capleton, on Wednesday, July 19, at 2 pm.
Mrs. Kemp passed away on Thursday, June 9, after a prolonged battle with kidney-related complications. She was a trailblazing female manager in the Jamaican music industry and received the Queen of Reggae Island Honorary Award in 2019. Her remarkable tenure as Capleton’s manager spanned over 22 years.
Capleton, also known as King Shango, is widely revered as a prominent figure in reggae and dancehall music. Recognized for his unique style, energetic performances, and extensive discography, he approached Mrs. Kemp in 1994 with an offer to manage him, which she initially declined. However, six years later, she had a change of heart and embraced the opportunity.
Throughout their professional journey together, she witnessed Capleton’s growth and maturation as both an artist and a professional, leaving an indelible mark on his career.
In a heartfelt tribute shared on his official Instagram account, Capleton expressed his profound grief over the loss of Mrs. Kemp, whom he affectionately regarded as his “second mom.” He described her as a great friend and one of the best managers he has ever had. Grateful for her significant contributions to his career, Capleton acknowledged her role in organizing his annual charity show, “A St Mary Mi Come From,” and her unwavering support for his family and friends. Mrs. Kemp’s steadfast presence during both his trials and triumphs left an enduring impact on him, and he expressed eternal gratitude for her unwavering support.
