On Sunday, May 7, the International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA) held its annual event at The Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston.Â
One of the most coveted awards of the night, the Reggae/Dancehall Icon Award, was presented to the legendary dancehall artist Bounty Killer. This year marked the 40th anniversary of IRAWMA, and Bounty Killer was prompt to praise the ceremony in his acceptance speech. He encouraged viewers to eagerly anticipate the event each year, much like the Grammy and Emmy Awards.
Days prior, the ‘Cross Angry’ deejay had expressed his delight at being nominated for the Lifetime Achievement Award. The evening also saw songstress Spice take home the Global Dancehall Queen trophy.Â
Overall, the event was a fitting tribute to the best in reggae and world music. Bounty Killer’s recognition as a Reggae/Dancehall Icon only adds to his already impressive legacy.
