Last month, Masicka signed a deal with American music giant Def Jam Recordings; though the details were kept confidential, information gathered by Prism Marketing Consultants revealed that the agreement comprises a two-album deal, the first of which will be released later this year as his sophomore effort.
On Wednesday morning (March 22), the “Update” hitmaker confirmed via Twitter that his new album was ready, with the tweet, “Album ready“, triggering a flurry of excitement from his fanbase. One fan praised Masicka’s consistency and quality of work, declaring,
“It’s funny how these new artists are self-proclaimed ‘best in dancehall,’ and you’ve been doing this for years and still top of the game – without selling out yourself. Excited for the new music man. We know it’s gonna be quality work as usual, hits after hits #certifiedHitman.”
While anticipation builds around his forthcoming album, Masicka continues to promote “Pieces,” the first single from the upcoming project, featuring trending deejay Jahshii. The official video, which premiered over a month ago, has amassed over 3.3 million views on Youtube and currently trends at the No.20 spot on the Jamaican edition of their music chart.
The still-untitled sophomore album will be the follow-up to Masicka’s critically acclaimed debut “438,” distributed by One RPM. “438,” comprising 16 tracks, debuted at No.2 on the Billboard Reggae Albums Chart in December 2021, peaked at No.14 on the Billboard Seekers Album list, and remained on the Top 10 list for seven consecutive weeks.
The entertainer was awarded a pair of plaques by the American music platform in recognition of his achievements.
With a successful debut album and a newly minted deal courtesy of Def Jam Recordings, Masicka is expected to continue his rise on the dancehall scene with his latest effort.
