Jamaican singer and Grammy winner Koffee, was reportedly questioned by U.S. immigration authorities following an altercation on an American Airlines flight travelling from Kingston to Miami.Â
The ‘Toast’ hitmaker allegedly got into an altercation with a flight attendant after attempting to use the first-class restroom despite being seated in the economy section. The situation escalated, causing the pilot to circle the flight until tensions eased between Koffee and the crew.
Koffee’s arrival in the United States was delayed due to the incident. The singer, whose real name is Mikayla Simpson, was reportedly interviewed by authorities but was eventually released.Â
Koffee made history in 2020 when she became the first woman and youngest person to win the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album for her Rapture E.P. Her debut album, Gifted, which features hit songs such as ‘Pull Up’, ‘West Indies’ and ‘Lockdown’, was nominated for Best Reggae Album at the 2023 Grammy Awards.
Several accolades and collaborations with artists such as John Legend, H.E.R., and Chronixx have marked Koffee’s success as a rising star in the reggae genre.Â
