Prominent rapper Nicki Minaj made headlines after a stunning performance at Trinidad Carnival this week, and it looks like she is just getting started.
The artist recently took to Instagram to express her excitement for Jamaica Carnival 2023, which she plans to attend after following a stint in her homeland.
Nicki also gave a shoutout to popular Jamaican disc jock and social media commentator Foota Hype, referring to him as “mi general.” Foota Hype expressed his admiration for Nicki’s return to the music scene, promising to review her latest song in a mirthful post: “happy to see you back in full effect queen I’m reviewing your new song tomorrow a chubble lol.”
In the same post, Nicki revealed that Trinidad isn’t the only carnival on her list, as she plans to attend Jamaica’s carnival too. She urged Foota Hype to “go brazy” when playing her music, adding, “We need @ next Trini carnival and I’m going to JA carnival.”
Nicki’s love for Trinidad and Tobago is well known, and she celebrated Carnival Monday in the country with some of the biggest names in soca music. In a new clip, Nicki shared her excitement for representing her “real flag,” after years of representing Jamaica and embracing its culture, including its music and language.
However, Nicki’s love for Jamaica has not been without controversy, as some of her Trinidadian fans have criticized her for not promoting her birth country enough. Despite growing up in the United States, Nicki has been heavily influenced by the Jamaican diaspora community and continues to show her support for the island nation.
