Valiant says he is “always aiming to become one of the greatest”, but amid the awards, sold-out shows and growing success, his September release “Time Capsule” finds the dancehall star reflecting on the more painful side of the journey. Released during the same period he secured his second consecutive Male Dancehall Artist of the Year honour, the introspective track sees Valiant confronting lost friends and personal hurt while giving thanks to God for his blessings, survival and progress, capturing an artiste celebrating how far he has come while acknowledging what it took to get there.
The timing gives “Time Capsule” added significance. Valiant entered the month off the back of another major career milestone, having been named Male Dancehall Artist of the Year at the Caribbean Music Awards for a second consecutive year. The latest recognition followed a strong run that included a sold-out North American tour, which reportedly moved more than 10,000 tickets across the run, while “Passenger Princess” continued to strengthen his presence in dancehall. Reflecting on the award, Valiant told Kaboom Magazine: “I’m grateful and thankful. Always aiming to become one of the greatest, it’s another step on my journey.”
That ambition runs throughout “Time Capsule”, but the song also reveals the weight behind the journey. Valiant gives thanks for waking up each day, having food on the table and experiencing financial and personal blessings, while acknowledging the negativity and obstacles surrounding him. Later, he becomes more vulnerable, referencing friends he has lost and the pain he has endured before declaring that he will overcome in due time. Rather than presenting success as an easy victory, the song frames progress as something shaped by perseverance, faith and the ability to keep moving despite setbacks.
Faith ultimately becomes one of the song’s central themes. Valiant describes God as his “only judge” and asks for his cup to be filled and to “run it over”, reinforcing the gratitude that runs through the track. The message also complements his public declaration that winning another major award is only “another step” towards his larger goal of becoming one of dancehall’s greats.
Meanwhile, Valiant’s career continues to develop on multiple fronts. Despite the momentum surrounding his music and recognition, he has indicated that he is not rushing into another full-length project, choosing instead to begin work on a new album when the timing feels right. For now, “Time Capsule” serves as a snapshot of an artiste in transition, celebrating the blessings of his present while reflecting on the struggles that helped shape his journey.
