Kkrytical is not short on confidence when it comes to his place in Dancehall. During a recent interview on The FIX, the artiste boldly declared that he is better than 95% of the artistes currently in the genre, while also addressing comparisons between himself and fellow Dancehall star Masicka. According to Kkrytical, listeners who take the time to properly explore his catalogue will recognise that, despite the comparisons, his sound is distinctly his own.
Asked about his versatility and the different styles of music he creates, Kkrytical said he has no intention of limiting himself to one lane. The artiste pointed to his ability to deejay, sing and switch between different flows, arguing that his versatility is one of the qualities that separates him from most of his peers. “I’m very talented,” he said before making his headline-grabbing assessment that he is better than 95% of Dancehall artistes. Kkrytical later identified his versatility, style, flow, melody and vocals as some of his biggest strengths, while also highlighting his ability to construct complex rhymes or simplify his approach depending on what a particular rhythm demands.
Meanwhile, Kkrytical also addressed the comparisons some listeners have made between his sound and that of Masicka. While making it clear that he respects the comparisons and offered respect to the established Dancehall star, Kkrytical argued that fans should listen more carefully before placing him in another artiste’s lane. He pointed to his own melodies, vocal tone, harmonies and cadence as evidence of his individuality, insisting that “Kkrytical sounds like Kkrytical.” Rather than being offended by the comparisons, however, he suggested that being mentioned alongside an artiste operating at a high level is not necessarily a negative thing.
The bold statements come as Kkrytical continues to build momentum following the growing success of “Loyalty”, a song he said resonated with listeners because of its themes of betrayal and personal struggle. After spending years working to establish himself in the music industry, including periods of frustration and self-doubt, the artiste now appears determined to make his growing profile count. Whether fans agree with his 95% claim or continue to hear similarities with Masicka, Kkrytical has made one thing clear: he believes his name and sound deserve to stand on their own.
