Beenie Man Honoured With Proclamation by City of Hartford as Eminence Continues Its Reign Atop the iTunes Reggae Albums Chart

Beenie Man is receiving renewed recognition in the United States, with the City of Hartford, Connecticut, issuing an official proclamation honouring the veteran deejay’s contribution to music, Jamaican culture and the global influence of dancehall. The recognition arrives during a strong international run for the Grammy-winning artiste, whose latest album Eminence recently reached No. 1 on both the US iTunes Reggae Albums and All Genres charts.

The Hartford honour comes at a particularly significant moment for Beenie Man, who has been using Eminence to reconnect his classic dancehall identity with a more international sound. The 16-track project features collaborations with artists including Rick Ross, T.I., Ashanti, Mýa and Rotimi, and has helped reignite interest in his back catalogue. The album spent three consecutive days at No. 1 on the US iTunes All Genres chart, while several tracks and classic Beenie Man hits also appeared on the iTunes Reggae chart.

Meanwhile, Beenie Man has also been reconnecting with his Jamaican audience. His long-running Summa Sizzle birthday concert returned in August after a hiatus dating back to the pandemic, bringing a major line-up to the Woodleigh Sports Complex in Clarendon. Ashanti, Capleton, Spragga Benz, Jahshii, Skeng, Tommy Lee Sparta, Shaneil Muir and Harry Toddler were among the performers at the more than seven-hour event, with Beenie Man also serving as host and performer. Following the successful staging, he confirmed that Summa Sizzle will return next year.

The Hartford proclamation adds another layer to what is shaping up to be an important chapter in Beenie Man’s career. The recognition was presented with the involvement of Veronica Airey-Wilson, a former Hartford Deputy Mayor and Jamaican, giving the moment an added connection to the Jamaican diaspora. For an artiste whose career has stretched across more than four decades, the combination of renewed US commercial momentum, a revived Jamaican event and official civic recognition suggests that Beenie Man’s global influence remains firmly intact.
