For Chronic Law, Monday could mark one of the most consequential days of his career. The Jamaican dancehall star is scheduled to make his first appearance before a Georgia federal court on Monday, August 31, as he prepares to answer to a firearms charge that could threaten not only his freedom but also his ability to continue living and working in the United States. Born Ackeme Jermane Campbell, the 32-year-old artiste is expected to appear in Albany following his July arrest on a federal charge of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, which carries a maximum possible penalty of 15 years in prison if he is convicted.

The case stems from a November 2025 traffic incident in Turner County, Georgia, during which authorities allegedly recovered four firearms, 92 rounds of ammunition and five magazines from a vehicle linked to Chronic Law. Federal authorities have alleged that one of the weapons was reported stolen and that the artiste later acknowledged the firearms were his, claiming they had been used in music videos. Investigators also allege that weapons similar to those recovered appeared in his videos for “Rich Inna Farrin” and “No Check”. The allegations remain before the court and have not been proven.

Meanwhile, Chronic Law’s O-1B non-immigrant visa has become another key element of the federal case. Prosecutors allege that he did not have the required authorisation to possess firearms while in the United States. Authorities have also previously argued that he presented both a flight risk and a danger to the community, resulting in an order that he remain in custody pending trial. Chronic Law is represented by attorney Ana Davide.

The latest court appearance comes during a turbulent period for the “Like Samson” hitmaker, who was detained by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement earlier this year before being released in March. He later channelled that experience into his seven-track EP, I.C.E (Inside Cold & Empty). His musical momentum has continued even as his legal troubles intensified, with Chronic Law recently appearing on new releases including Sean Paul collaboration “Nuh Wah Yuh Leave” and “Stand Firm” with Anthony B.

Monday’s hearing will now place one of dancehall’s most recognisable contemporary voices back in the spotlight, but this time, the stage is a federal courtroom. What happens next could have major consequences for Chronic Law’s freedom, career and future in the United States.
