Dancehall star Dexta Daps has confirmed that his next album is nearing completion, offering fans a glimpse into what he calls an exciting new phase of his career. As he gears up for his highly anticipated return to the Dream Weekend stage for Daydreams in Montego Bay on August 1, the entertainer says his focus extends beyond delivering another standout live performance, with new music and continued global touring firmly in his sights.
Known for blending soulful melodies with dancehall’s raw energy, Dexta Daps, born Louis Grandison, believes his longevity has been built on remaining authentic rather than following industry trends. “Staying true to the vibe that started my career and keeping the music honest and relatable,” he said, explaining that while production styles continue to evolve, he has never felt compelled to chase what is fashionable. Instead, he credits genuine emotion, memorable melodies and meaningful performances for helping him maintain a loyal fan base for more than a decade.
The singer also reflected on how his creative process has matured since launching his career in 2012 with Save Me Jah and May You Be. After breaking through with songs including Morning Love, Jealous Ova featuring Tifa and the breakout hit Shabba Madda Pot, Dexta Daps has gone on to collaborate with a diverse list of artistes, including Kranium, Masicka, Mavado, M.I.A., Davido, Kiesza and Tory Lanez. Looking back, he says each project has sharpened his storytelling and strengthened his ability to balance intimate, soulful records with the vibrant energy expected from dancehall.
With Dream Weekend recognised as one of the Caribbean’s premier entertainment festivals, Dexta Daps says performing on this year’s line-up remains a privilege. Although he refused to reveal exactly what fans can expect, he hinted that surprises are in store, promising “plenty of energy” and a performance that audiences will remember. Beyond the festival, however, his attention is already fixed on completing the upcoming album and taking his music to even more audiences around the world, setting the stage for what could become one of the biggest chapters of his career.
