For the first time in its 16-year history, Jamaica’s famed Dream Weekend will swap Negril’s laid-back shores for Montego Bay’s buzzing coastline in 2026 — a move organisers say will redefine “The Greatest Wknd” for years to come. The announcement, delivered by Dream Entertainment Chairman Kamal Bankay at a press event in Pier 1, Montego Bay, comes after mounting concerns about limited accommodation, transportation bottlenecks, and other growing pains in Negril. “The Greatest Wknd is Happening in Montego Bay, Jamaica. See you for Dream Weekend 2026. Book your tickets now and save,” Bankay urged, signalling a fresh era for the beloved summer festival.

The relocation is rooted in practicality as much as ambition. With Negril’s infrastructure increasingly strained by the tens of thousands of partygoers flocking to its shores each Emancipation and Independence weekend, Montego Bay’s superior hospitality capacity and transport access proved too compelling to ignore. The city’s well-established track record with mega-events like Reggae Sumfest and the now-retired Jazz and Blues Festival reassured organisers that the move could deliver a more seamless experience for both patrons and partners.

Montego Bay’s credentials speak for themselves. In July alone, Jamaica welcomed over 286,000 stopover visitors — most arriving through Montego Bay’s Sangster International Airport — and Reggae Sumfest recently pulled in over 50,000 patrons across two nights. Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Jason Russell welcomed the news, praising the city’s readiness to accommodate such a high-profile festival and framing it as a natural progression for Dream Weekend’s growth.

The shift also carries major tourism implications. With a diverse spread of world-class resorts, vibrant nightlife, and easy airport proximity, Montego Bay promises to enhance the Dream Weekend brand while driving economic benefits for hoteliers, transport operators, and the wider community. It’s a win-win scenario for sponsors and stakeholders eager to see the event evolve without losing its signature high-energy flair.

In a follow-up social media post, Bankay thanked “our phenomenal sponsors, our fantastic patrons, and our extraordinary team for making Dream Wknd Negril, 2025 one for the books.” As anticipation builds for July 30 – August 3, 2026, the stage is set for Montego Bay to not just host Dream Weekend, but to help it reach its fullest potential — bringing together sun, sand, and sound in a setting built to handle the heat.
