While Chris Brown says fans have delivered mixed reactions to his new 27-track album Brown, the Grammy-winning superstar is already spotlighting standout moments from the chart-dominating release, including his collaboration with Jamaican dancehall legend Vybz Kartel. The album surged to No.1 on both the U.S. iTunes and Apple Music charts over the weekend, with Brown personally naming the Kartel-assisted track among his favourite songs from the project despite growing online debate surrounding the album’s overall reception.

Taking to Instagram shortly after the album’s release, Brown thanked listeners for giving the project a chance even as reviews remained divided. “Just wanna say thank you to everyone who listened to this album,” he wrote on his Instagram Story. “Been a lot of mixed reviews and I can take my audience’s criticism and opinions.” The singer also noted that several of his previous albums faced similar scrutiny before eventually connecting with fans over time. In another post, Brown revealed that “Honey Pack,” “It’s Not You It’s Me,” “F*** and Party,” “Say Nothin’” and “Colours” were among his personal favourites from the album.

The spotlight on Vybz Kartel arrives at a time when the dancehall icon continues to build major international momentum. Fresh off securing 11 nominations at the International Reggae and World Music Awards 2026, Kartel has remained one of the most talked-about figures in Caribbean music following a wave of global performances, collaborations and renewed crossover attention. Fans online quickly reacted to Brown’s public co-sign, with many praising the chemistry between the two artists and hailing the collaboration as one of the strongest dancehall moments on the album.

Meanwhile, the success of Brown despite mixed reviews has sparked wider conversations across social media about the evolving relationship between commercial performance and critical reception in modern music. For many dancehall supporters, Brown openly highlighting Vybz Kartel on one of the biggest R&B releases of the year signals another major cultural win for the genre as Jamaican music continues expanding its influence across the global mainstream.
