A new chapter in the legendary Marley musical legacy is unfolding as Sharon Marley prepares to release her new single “Island” this Friday, March 6. The track brings together Sharon, her sister Cedella Marley, and former Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers member Rica Newell for a roots reggae celebration of Jamaica, unity and sisterhood. The collaboration marks the second single from Sharon’s forthcoming debut solo album Firebird, set for release on March 20.

Driven by a warm drum-and-bass groove, “Island” captures the spirit of Caribbean life with vivid lyrics about swimming in clear waters, sipping roots wine and soaking up the sunshine of Jamaica. The collaboration bridges generations of the Marley legacy while allowing Sharon to step confidently into her own spotlight as a solo artist. The single also carries a deeper purpose. All streaming proceeds will be donated to Humanity Ova Vanity, a Canadian-based charity providing emergency relief, housing support and community services across Jamaica.

The organisation is currently spearheading the Petersfield Community Resilience Hub, a project designed to assist families displaced by the devastating impact of Hurricane Melissa. Through transitional housing, safe child spaces and social services, the initiative aims to restore stability to communities still rebuilding after the storm.

“Island” follows Sharon’s earlier single “Steppah,” a collaboration with reggae veteran Big Youth that tapped into the classic rub-a-dub energy of Jamaican dancehall. Produced by Leroy Romans, the forthcoming album Firebird blends eleven tracks of classic reggae rhythms, soulful storytelling and healing 432 Hz frequencies. With the project, Sharon honours the legacy of her parents, Bob Marley and Rita Marley, while carving out a powerful new voice of her own. As anticipation builds toward the March 20 album release, “Island” is poised to resonate not just as a reggae anthem, but as a celebration of Caribbean culture and community upliftment.
