When a mother’s desperate plea went viral, reggae firebrand Bugle didn’t hesitate. Trubian Williams, a Trelawny resident, took to social media following Hurricane Melissa, sharing a heart-wrenching message about her struggles as a single mother raising a 12-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl under deplorable conditions. “Mi need likkle help… mi nuh see nuh MP, mi nuh see nuh govament people… mi need likkle assistance Oh God! Look pon mi yute dem cyah eat or drink!” she cried, capturing the nation’s attention.
The video reached Bugle through a friend, prompting the singer to take immediate action. Delivering a vanload of much-needed food and other essentials for Trubian and her children, Bugle also pledged ongoing support to improve their living conditions. Including a proper roof over their heads, Bugle is working to ensure the home is livable and safe, especially for the children. “Once the video reach me, I couldn’t ignore it. As a father and as a Human, it touched me deep… I just felt it was my duty to step in, even in a small way, and remind her — and others like her — that she’s not alone,” Bugle told Prism Marketing Consultants.
Hurricane Melissa, a Category 5 system, left a trail of devastation across Jamaica, affecting nearly 900,000 people and causing an estimated US$8 billion in damage. With over 150,000 homes damaged or destroyed, the impact on infrastructure and livelihoods is profound. Agriculture Minister Floyd Green confirmed losses of J$29.5 billion across crops and livestock, threatening national food security. More than 70,000 farmers were affected, with the poultry sector losing over half the country’s laying flock.
