After five years grounded, domestic air travel between Montego Bay and Kingston is finally ready to soar again. LIAT Airlines will resume operations between Jamaica’s two major cities on Friday, July 11, restoring a vital link that promises to transform how Jamaicans and visitors traverse the island. The journey, which typically takes 2.5 hours by car or up to 3.5 hours by bus, will now be completed in a swift 25 minutes—a game-changing development for business travellers, tourists, and everyday commuters.

The announcement came during the ongoing Airport Forum at Sangster International Airport, where Shane Munroe, CEO of MBJ Airports Limited, confirmed the highly anticipated move. “LIAT will operate three flights per week from Montego Bay, Kingston and Antigua and Barbuda,” Munroe stated, emphasizing that the service supports MBJ’s commitment to boosting regional connectivity and making travel more efficient for both leisure and professional purposes.

Beyond the convenience, this renewed domestic air link is expected to stimulate growth across key sectors including tourism, commerce, and medical logistics. It also signals a strategic regional expansion, as the Antigua-based carrier deepens its footprint in the Caribbean with added service to Antigua and Barbuda from Montego Bay.

With Sangster International evolving as a central hub for regional travel, LIAT’s return underscores Jamaica’s role in the wider Caribbean aviation landscape. This is more than a flight route; it’s a bold step toward reimagining inter-island mobility.
