Usain Bolt, the fastest man on earth and a beloved Jamaican icon, has added two remarkable honours to his legacy, reaffirming his status as a global trailblazer both on and off the track. This week, the Guinness World Records officially named the sprint legend a “World Records Icon” as part of the organisation’s 70th anniversary celebration — a title reserved for individuals whose achievements have forever shaped history. Bolt, who still holds the world records for the men’s 100 metres (9.58 seconds) and 200 metres (19.19 seconds), was personally presented with the honour by Guinness World Records Editor-in-Chief Craig Glenday, a part of 15 official certificates recognizing his unmatched feats. “I’m honoured to be a part of the greats, and always happy to be recognized by the Guinness World Records book,” Bolt said, smiling as he envisioned his growing collection of accolades adorning his home.
But the accolades didn’t stop there. Just weeks prior, Bolt took on a new national role that extends far beyond athletics — as the newly appointed Global Ambassador for Jamaica’s Tourism. The announcement was made during the Jamaica Tourist Board’s 70th anniversary at Devon House in Kingston, where Bolt pledged to use his international influence to boost the island’s tourism sector and inspire national development. “We have a deal, but we trying to make it a lifetime, right? We going to work on that,” he joked, charming the audience with the same charisma that once lit up Olympic stadiums worldwide.
For Bolt, this appointment is deeply personal. “At the end of the day, this is where we live. One of my biggest things is to promote Jamaica so that we can help to diminish poverty and to uplift the country,” he said passionately. Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett hailed the sprinter as a “distinguished Jamaican son,” emphasizing how Bolt’s ambassadorship will elevate Jamaica’s visibility in key international markets.
Whether sprinting into the record books or carrying the banner for his homeland, Usain Bolt continues to prove that greatness is not just measured by speed — but by lasting impact.
