Dancehall star Aidonia, currently in New York ahead of the U.S. leg of his 20th Anniversary Celebration concert set to unfold at the UBS Arena on Saturday, May 3, has granted fans a rare glimpse into his mind, pulling back the veil a bit during an exclusive interview with the award-winning podcast The FIX earlier this week. Known for his elusive media presence, the 4th Genna head honcho is sure to grab headlines with this appearance—his first full-length sit-down in nearly a decade—where he addressed deeply personal moments and pivotal chapters of his storied career.

In the candid conversation, Aidonia reflected on the tragic loss of his then-only son, Khalif Lawrence, who passed away in December 2022 after a courageous battle with cancer. He opened up about marriage and the death of his close friend and longtime musical collaborator, Size 10. “Mi nuh run from pain—mi use it fi build mi strength,” he shared. The savvy lyricist also revisited the trials of his formative years, including his expulsion from the Bounty Killer-led Alliance, being blackballed by the local music industry, and the strained relations and long-anticipated lyrical clash with Vybz Kartel that never manifested.

When quizzed about his current relationship with Popcaan, Aidonia had an interesting response—choosing diplomacy over drama. He also addressed the rift and subsequent reconciliation with Masicka, putting an end to years of rumoured tension between the two. Speaking on unity in the genre, he expressed respect for his peers and emphasised the importance of legacy over rivalry.

As he prepares to take the UBS Arena stage this weekend, Aidonia’s resurgence in the media space comes at a time when Dancehall itself is reflecting on its generational torchbearers. The full FIX interview premieres this Friday, May 2, via their official  YouTube channel, offering fans even more insight into the mind of one of the genre’s most enigmatic and enduring voices. For many, Aidonia’s interview will not just be about nostalgia—it’s a powerful statement about perseverance, growth, and the evolving legacy of Dancehall culture.
