The award comes at a career-defining moment for Davido, who recently unleashed his critically acclaimed fifth studio album, 5ive—a confident, electrifying collection that fuses Afropop, R&B, and dancehall influences, including collaborations with Jamaican heavyweights Shenseea and 450. Held at the Eko Convention Centre in Lagos, Nigeria, the 2025 Headies marked a powerful return after two years abroad in Atlanta, Georgia. Under the themes “Back to Base” and “Apologetically African,” the event honoured the very best of African music from April 2023 to July 2024. Davido’s 5ive showcases his continued global ambitions. Featuring collaborations with artists such as Shenseea on the pulsating “R&B” and Jamaica’s rising star 450, the album paints a vibrant picture of cross-cultural synergy. Facing stiff competition from Burna Boy, Seyi Vibez, Ayra Starr featuring Giveon, Sarz, and Lojay, Tems’ victory highlighted her continued dominance as one of Afrobeats’ most soulful voices. Her mother proudly accepted the award on her behalf, a touching reminder of Tems’ steady rise since first winning a Headies in 2021 for “Essence.”
