Founded in 2015 by Andre “Kryss Ras” Barnes and Rayon “Prof” Smith, the company has steadily expanded its influence in music production, videography, and event organization. At the helm of this success stands Kryss Ras, a visionary bandleader and former road manager for dancehall heavyweight Alkaline. His transition from behind-the-scenes support to leading one of Jamaica’s most sought-after live bands, Tower Band, is a testament to his relentless drive and industry expertise.
Since its inception, TMMG has played a pivotal role in shaping modern reggae and dancehall. The group’s work spans high-profile music video productions for top-tier artists such as Dexta Daps (Slippery and Wet), Popcaan (Survivor), Beres Hammond & Popcaan (A Mother’s Love), 10Tik & Yaksta (Freedom), Tarrus Riley & 10Tik (Tears of Joy), Elephant Man (Warm Up), and Tanya Stephens (Not Today). Beyond visuals, the company has made waves in music production, curating standout projects like Future Weapon Riddim, featuring Jahvillani, Bugle, Jahshii, Alexx A Game, Elly B, Maestro Don, VoiceMail, and Kenzic, as well as the Arctic Riddim, which boasts contributions from Konshens, Ce’Cile, and Kalado. Reflecting on his journey, Kryss Ras acknowledges his early days as Alkaline’s road manager and background vocalist as a key chapter in his career. While their direct collaboration has since tapered off, the mutual respect remains. “The relationship between Alkaline and Kryss Ras is really a respect-from-afar situation. He knows what I did for him,” he shared. Kryss Ras credits this respect as a factor that allowed Tower Band to perform for Skeng at Alkaline’s New Rules 2022, a pivotal moment that boosted their visibility. With Jamaica’s live entertainment sector recovering—after a 39% drop in performance-based earnings during the pandemic—such milestones are crucial in strengthening the nation’s musical footprint.
Beyond their musical ventures, TMMG has extended its reach into event planning, successfully launching Masquerade in Clarendon in 2024. Featuring performances from Skeng, 10Tik, and Shane O, the event underscored their commitment to nurturing talent and crafting immersive live experiences. Tower Band, which has provided live accompaniment for major acts like Masicka, Sizzla, Skeng, Richie Spice, Marcia Griffiths, Ken Boothe, Bugle, Aidonia, 450, Gyptian, Kraff, Tony Rebel, Charly Black, Teejay, Valiant, Stalk Ashley, Tanya Stephens, Rajah Wild, Queen Ifrica, Jahshii, and I-Octane, continues to rise.
