Dancehall icon Bounty Killer has officially set foot on American soil for the first time in 15 years after his U.S. visa was reinstated. The deejay, whose travel documents were revoked in 2010 under unclear circumstances, took to social media on Tuesday to share the long-awaited moment with fans. Posting a photo of himself aboard a flight, he declared, “God is the greatest all the times despite how it may seem… the greatest thing I never had to beg, bend or bow. I stayed true to myself, vigilant and resilient.”

Bounty Killer, born Rodney Price, has long expressed frustration over the impact of his U.S. travel ban on his career and personal life. “Most of my fans are in the US, and that’s where the music market is biggest. I can’t even get to go promote my songs or greet my fans or even my family, my kids. I got several kids in the US, so this affected me devastatingly,” he admitted in a previous interview with The FIX Podcast. Now at 51, the “Poor People’s Governor” is poised to reestablish his presence in the American market, which remains one of the most lucrative for Jamaican music.

His return comes amid a wave of visa reinstatements for top-tier dancehall stars. Last month, Vybz Kartel’s visa was restored following his recent legal developments, while Beenie Man and Sizzla Kalonji also had their travel bans lifted. The move signals a potential shift in U.S. immigration policies towards Jamaican entertainers, many of whom have faced prolonged bans due to alleged associations with criminal activity or past legal troubles.

Jamaica, known as the birthplace of reggae and dancehall, heavily relies on its music industry, which contributes significantly to its economy. According to the Planning Institute of Jamaica, the entertainment and creative industries account for approximately 5% of the nation’s GDP, with dancehall playing a crucial role in cultural exports. The reinstatement of these artists’ visas could pave the way for a resurgence in international bookings, brand partnerships, and economic growth within the genre.

As congratulations pour in from fellow artists, eagerly anticipate Bounty Killer’s next moves. Whether it’s new music, international performances, or long-overdue family reunions, one thing is certain—the Warlord is back in business.
