Dancehall legend Bounty Killer is officially back in the U.S., and his return is already making waves. Following the recent reinstatement of his visa after a 15-year hiatus, the “Warlord” has been confirmed as the latest headliner for the Jamaican leg of Aidonia’s 20th Anniversary concert series. The announcement, made on Friday morning, has heightened anticipation for the May 10 event at Sabina Park in Kingston. Bounty Killer now joins reggae firebrand Capleton, who was revealed as the first major act for the show, setting the stage for a historic night in dancehall and reggae.

Aidonia’s celebration series is shaping up to be a landmark event for the genre, with the first leg taking place at the UBS Arena in New York on May 3. The 19,000-capacity venue will feature an all-star lineup, including Sizzla Kalonji, Cham, Spragga Benz, Mavado, Govana, Jada Kingdom, and Shenseea. With U.S. ticket sales reportedly moving fast, the Kingston show is expected to follow suit, especially with Bounty Killer’s addition. Known for timeless anthems like Look Into My Eyes, Benz and Bimma, and Poor People Fed Up, Bounty has been a defining voice in dancehall for decades, and his return to the international stage marks a significant moment for the genre.

Bounty Killer’s visa reinstatement has been a long-awaited victory for the entertainer, whose absence from the U.S. market for 15 years impacted both his career and personal life. “Most of my fans are in the US, and that’s where the music market is biggest,” he previously shared. Now 51, the deejay is poised to reestablish his presence in the American entertainment space, which remains a crucial hub for dancehall’s global reach. His reinstatement follows a growing trend of top-tier dancehall artists regaining travel access, including Beenie Man, Buju Banton, Sizzla Kalonji, and more recently, Vybz Kartel.

Jamaica’s music industry, which contributes approximately 5% to the nation’s GDP according to the Planning Institute of Jamaica, stands to benefit significantly from this resurgence. The inclusion of artists like Bounty Killer in major international events not only boosts concert revenue but also revitalizes brand partnerships and cultural exports. With Aidonia’s anniversary celebration bringing together some of the biggest names in dancehall and reggae, fans can expect a show that honours the genre’s rich legacy while signalling a new era for its pioneers.
