Dancehall superstar Vybz Kartel has officially had his U.S. visa reinstated and is presently on American soil after landing Friday evening in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This milestone moment comes just days ahead of the 67th Annual Grammy Awards, where his EP Party With Me is nominated for Best Reggae Album. The deejay, accompanied by his fiancée Sidem Öztürk, business associates TJ and  Cordel “Skatta” Burrell, was met with excitement from fans and industry insiders eager to witness his long-awaited return to the U.S.

Kartel’s arrival follows intense speculation after reports surfaced that he had secured his visa just in time for music’s biggest night. The Fever hitmaker fueled the buzz earlier this week with an Instagram post declaring, “God is the greatest. Faith can move mountains… always put God first and do good.” Observers noted the timing of his statement, believing it signalled a major breakthrough. Now, with his presence confirmed in the U.S., anticipation is at an all-time high for his attendance at Sunday’s Grammy ceremony at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

The nomination of Party With Me is historic, marking Kartel’s first-ever Grammy nod. Despite being recorded under extraordinary circumstances while the artist was incarcerated, the project resonated globally, climbing to No. 2 on the iTunes Top 100 Reggae Albums chart. In a recent interview with Billboard, Kartel reflected on his career, stating, “If I wasn’t incarcerated, I would have been nominated already… I know if I wasn’t arrested, based on the trajectory that my career was on, I would have definitely won.” His competitors in the Best Reggae Album category include industry heavyweights like Bob Marley, The Wailers, Shenseea, and Collie Buddz.

Kartel’s return to the U.S. is especially significant given that his visa was revoked in 2005 under undisclosed circumstances. His reinstatement follows a trend of dancehall giants regaining U.S. travel privileges, with Buju Banton and Beenie Man both securing their visas in recent years. With his legal battles behind him and a renewed sense of purpose, Kartel’s reentry into the U.S. marks a new chapter not just for his career but for dancehall’s global visibility.

Beyond the Grammys, sources indicate that Kartel is already set to headline major international festivals, including Wireless in England and SummerJam in Germany. Whether or not he takes home the award this Sunday, his presence alone signals a powerful resurgence—one that could redefine his legacy and further cement his status as a global dancehall icon.
