On Friday, October 26, 2024, dancehall icon Rodney “Bounty Killer” Pryce O.D. was honoured with the International Humanitarian Award by BLAC in partnership with the Royal Air Force at the BLAC Awards 2024. This prestigious recognition comes on the heels of Bounty’s receipt of Jamaica’s Order of Distinction in the Rank of Officer at the National Honours and Awards ceremony over the Heroes Day weekend. In an Instagram post celebrating the BLAC accolade, Bounty expressed heartfelt gratitude, stating,
“My most sincere gratitude and appreciation to the BLAC Awards and the Royal Air Force for this next Humanitarian Award…this will serve as a huge motivation for me to continue the great works of philanthropy.”
These accolades mark the culmination of a year defined by Bounty’s remarkable philanthropic contributions through his Bounty Foundation, which has delivered essential support to vulnerable communities in Jamaica. In late September, the artist donated much-needed medical supplies to Bellevue Hospital in Kingston, including air conditioning units, wheelchairs, walkers, and televisions, benefitting over 400 patients. His goal was to improve conditions for mental health patients, a cause close to his heart. Reflecting on his commitment to community welfare, Bounty shared,
“It gave me great joy being able to gift the less fortunate and create smiles for Jamaica,” while calling on corporate Jamaica to increase its support for the underserved.
Most recently, Bounty joined forces with fellow artist Shaggy to donate US$10,000 (J$1.5 million) to aid Lieutenant Stitchie, the dancehall stalwart battling health issues following a brain haemorrhage. During a heartfelt ceremony, Bounty urged the music industry to come together in times of need. “We all see that Stitchie need some help…we don’t come together for each other, and that’s very saddening to me,” he stated. With these awards and his continuous community contributions, Bounty Killer embodies his foundation’s motto, “Each One, Teach One, To Reach One,” setting a powerful example of leadership and unity for his fans and fellow artists alike.
