Grammy-nominated dancehall star Spice, also known as the reigning Queen of Dancehall, made a grand announcement on July 10, on Good Morning America. She revealed the official cover art for her much-anticipated third studio album, “Mirror 25,” and announced its release date as August 9, 2024. This album marks a significant milestone, celebrating her 25 years in the music industry.
In a subsequent interview with The FIX podcast, Spice shared exciting details about “Mirror 25.” The album, featuring 25 tracks, includes collaborations with notable artists such as Busta Rhymes and Chronic Law. One of the standout tracks, “Gangsta,” with Law Boss is set to be released this weekend. Addressing questions about the extensive tracklist, Spice explained, “No! Because I wanted it to represent the 25 years I’ve been in the business.” She emphasized that narrowing down to 25 songs was challenging, as she recorded over 150 tracks in just a few months, sometimes recording up to 10 songs daily. “Memba that mi come from Kartel’s camp; dem man deh just spit out songs every day,” she added, highlighting her relentless work ethic.
Spice’s appearance on Good Morning America and The FIX wasn’t just about announcing her album. She reflected on her 25-year journey in the male-dominated music industry. “I started my music career in 1999. 25 years is a long time… It’s not a small thing, it’s a very big thing,” she said. The album serves as a mirror, reflecting on the challenges and triumphs she has faced. Spice also expressed her love for Jamaican culture, shared advice she would give her younger self, and revealed her next dream collaboration: Beyoncé.
“Mirror 25,” executive produced by Spice, promises to be an artistic showcase of her evolution, featuring a kaleidoscope of rhythmic tracks that act as a raw, open diary of her past trials and tribulations. With distribution through Empire, this album symbolizes reflection and self-discovery, marking a new era for the legendary artist. The announcement follows the successful release of her controversial single “2085 Tea” and the infectious party anthem “Round Round” featuring Busta Rhymes, both of which topped the iTunes Reggae charts. Fans eagerly await the full album, anticipating a deep dive into the life and legacy of Spice.
