Jamaican dancehall sensation Shenseea released her eagerly anticipated sophomore album, ‘Never Gets Late Here,’ on Friday, May 24, marking a significant juncture in her burgeoning international career. Following the success of her debut album, ‘Alpha,’ which catapulted her into the international spotlight in 2022, Shenseea’s latest project, debuting at No.1 on the iTunes Reggae Albums chart, has the potential to further solidify her position in the global music scene. The 14-track set features collaborations with industry heavyweights such as Wizkid, Masicka, Coi Leray, Di Genius, and Anitta, promising a dynamic and diverse musical experience showcasing her artistry.

Despite the high expectations surrounding ‘Never Gets Late Here,‘ Shenseea remains grounded and open-minded about the album’s reception. In an interview with People’s Magazine, she expressed relief and excitement about finally sharing her new work with the world.

“I’m trying to stay not too excited, I’ll say, because I don’t know what to expect. I’m just hoping for the best,” she revealed. “It has just been a relief trying to get this project out there for the past year, and so the time has finally come for it to hit everyone’s ears, and I’m just anxious to see the feedback, to be honest. I really want one of these songs to go further than any of my songs has ever been.”

Shenseea’s aspirations extend beyond commercial success; she has her sights set on earning major accolades, particularly a solo Grammy. “One wish is to definitely get a Grammy,” she proclaimed. “Even if it’s just nominated. I always said that I want to win a reggae Grammy first before I win any other Grammy because it’s where I’m from. I don’t want to win just for myself, I want to win it for my country, I want to win it for my family, my friends, the people who grew up with me, my team.”

This heartfelt desire underscores her commitment to her roots and determination to achieve recognition for herself and Jamaica on the global stage.

As Shenseea continues to evolve her music, she hopes her fans will embrace a broader artistic vision. “I feel like we can do so much more standing together,” she noted. “We don’t have to do strictly dancehall and reggae music just because we come from Jamaica. There’s so many talented people in Jamaica who think that they have to be trapped doing a certain type of genre when that’s not the case.” With ‘Never Gets Late Here,’ Shenseea aims to inspire her fellow Jamaican artists to explore new genres and create music that resonates with their true selves. As she puts it, “For me, the streets and in real life, that’s my charts. When everybody’s singing my song, that makes me feel like number one.”
