Dancehall vocalist Singer J is poised to create ripples with his upcoming release, ‘A Tribute to Bob Andy.’ This nine-track album, produced by SOL Records and JJ Wizzle, is more than just a collection of songs. It’s a heartfelt homage to the legendary reggae crooner Bob Andy, an artist who left an indelible mark on the global music scene. Scheduled for release on Friday, May 3, 2024, this compilation promises to reignite the flame of Andy’s legacy while introducing his timeless music to a new generation.

The decision to honour Bob Andy was deeply personal for Singer J, who saw it as an opportunity to shine a light on his uncle’s remarkable contributions to Jamaica and the global reggae music industry. “I decided to honour my uncle because he is among the greats of the greats in Jamaica,” Singer J shared. “It’s like most of the time, people have to pass away before the recognition comes along. And if you check the stats sheet of this man that I look up to and honour, I realize he’s the man who made Marcia Griffiths.”

Through ‘A Tribute to Bob Andy,’ Singer J puts his own unique spin on Andy’s timeless classics. From the soulful melodies of “Desperate Lover” to the infectious rhythm of “Fire Burning,” each track is a testament to Andy’s enduring influence. Notably, the project boasts a singular feature with Tishana on ‘We’ll Be Together‘. With the album’s forthcoming release, Singer J aims to ensure that his uncle’s legacy continues to resonate with audiences worldwide. “I’m here to continue the legacy with great feelings about doing it,” Singer J affirmed. “I’ve been around the world and seen what his music can do.”

Bob Andy, whose real name was Keith Anderson, was more than just a musician; he was a trailblazer whose impact on reggae is immeasurable. As one of the founding members of The Paragons and a prolific songwriter, Andy penned hits such as “Truly” and “Feel Like Jumping,” which became synonymous with the reggae genre. His collaborations with Marcia Griffiths, including the chart-toppers “Young, Gifted and Black” and “Pied Piper,” further solidified his place in music history.

Despite his profound influence, Andy’s contributions were often underappreciated until his passing in March 2020. However, through projects like ‘A Tribute to Bob Andy,’ his legacy continues to be celebrated and cherished by artists like Singer J. As Jamaica’s music scene evolves, it is essential to honour the pioneers who laid the foundation for its success. This album stands as evidence to the enduring power of Bob Andy’s music and serves as a reminder of the indelible mark he left on reggae music.

In recognition of his contributions, Bob Andy was awarded the Order of Distinction in the rank of Commander Class (CD) in October 2006. As the release date for ‘A Tribute to Bob Andy’ draws near, anticipation mounts for what promises to be a fitting homage to one of reggae’s most influential figures.
