Reggae-dancehall icon Buju Banton has issued a stirring call to his fellow Jamaicans, cautioning them against the perils he sees looming on the horizon. In a poignant video message that has quickly circulated across social media platforms, the Grammy-winning artist delivered a sobering wake-up call, urging citizens to brace themselves for what he believes are tumultuous times ahead.

With an unfiltered delivery, Buju expressed his disappointment in the trajectory of some fellow entertainers, lamenting that many have succumbed to the allure of material wealth, forsaking their principles in pursuit of financial gain. He unequivocally distanced himself from the label of “entertainer,” asserting his identity as a singer and instrumentalist who has steadfastly remained true to his craft and convictions.

“Mi nuh come fi sell nutt’n the Lord bless mi from mi a nineteen because mi stay true to the order of wah him seh. Singers and players of instruments, mi anuh nuh b**mbocl**t entertainer, mi is a singer and player of instruments, entertainers ah clowns…” He declared.

Beyond the realm of entertainment, Buju directed sharp criticism towards various institutions, including the media, government, and law enforcement. He accused these entities of orchestrating a mass deception, peddling a singular narrative while keeping citizens in the dark about their true selves and the realities they face.

“Look wah trick oonu, oonu TV! Look wah trick oonu, oonu government! Look wah trick oonu, oonu police. All dem bl**dcl**t police yah we pay oonu taxes and before oonu suppose to ah help the people dem, mi see oonu a abuse Jamaicans and a beat dem, oonu nuh see wah day yah oonu couldn’t get nuh food it aguh get worse.” the singer added.

In a moment of profound introspection, Buju challenged his compatriots to embark on a journey of self-discovery and empowerment, urging them to break free from the shackles of ignorance and dependency. With a pointed reference to Jamaica’s agricultural shortcomings, he questioned the populace’s ability to sustain themselves in the face of impending challenges, highlighting the urgent need for self-sufficiency and resilience.

Buju’s message extended beyond mere warning; it carried a profound sense of urgency and responsibility. He underscored the importance of individual agency and critical thinking, urging Jamaicans to reclaim their role as active participants in shaping their collective destiny. Emphasizing the need for vigilance and discernment, he implored his audience to seek out alternative perspectives and resist the pervasive influence of mainstream narratives.

As Buju reflected on the plight of future generations, particularly the vulnerability of children exposed to societal ills, his message resonated with a sense of moral obligation and compassion. He called for a reevaluation of Jamaica’s political landscape, challenging citizens to consider alternatives beyond the traditional dichotomy of political parties.
