This weekend, the Marley family prepares to mark a notable occasion in reggae as they gather to celebrate Jo Mersa Marley’s Earthstrong on March 9, 2024, at Reggaeland in Nine Mile, St Ann, Jamaica.
The event lineup features the Marley Brothers, as well as YG Marley, Mystic Marley, and Yohan Marley, along with other notable artists, including Spragga Benz, Lutan Fyah, Kabaka Pyramid, Jesse Royal and Bugle, among others. The event promises to be a memorable tribute to Jo Mersa’s musical legacy.
This celebration comes a year after Jo Mersa was laid to rest on January 17, 2023, at the Bob Marley Museum in St Andrew. Jo Mersa passed away at the age of 31 on December 27, 2022, due to an asthma attack. Though his departure was sudden and tragic, investigations found no foul play involved.
Jo Mersa Marley’s impact on the reggae scene was noteworthy despite his untimely passing. From his debut in 2010 with “My Girl” alongside cousin Daniel Bambaata Marley to his collaborations with his father, Stephen Marley, his contributions to the genre were meaningful.
