Grammy award-winning music producer, artiste manager, and businessman Comar “Frankie” Campbell, is currently recovering from a severe car accident that occurred on New Year’s Eve. The incident left him and several members of his team hospitalized, prompting a reflection on the harrowing experience that nearly claimed their lives.
Speaking with Prism Marketing Consultants, Frankie said the accident transpired around 5 am on December 31 as they were returning to Kingston from a concert. In the vicinity of Mile Gully in Manchester, their black Honda Stepwagon was struck from behind by a taxi while navigating a corner. The impact to the rear right side of the vehicle caused it to spin out of control, colliding with an embankment. The collision resulted in whiplash and minor injuries for all occupants, with Frankie, who was driving, being pinned between the steering wheel and his seat.
Upon being alerted to the situation, other members of their convoy, including dancehall artiste Laa Lee, promptly assisted in removing the occupants from the Stepwagon and rushing them to the hospital. The group was taken to the Medical Associates facility in Kingston, where thorough examinations, including X-rays, were conducted to assess the extent of their injuries. After a few hours of observation, it was revealed that Frankie had suffered a fractured rib, while Voicemail member Kevyn required a neck brace. The incident left the rest of the occupants shaken but with only minor injuries.
Reflecting on the ordeal, Frankie emphasized the importance of responsible driving, urging motorists, including taxi drivers, to slow down and be mindful of others on the road.
“People need to take more responsibility when driving on the roads and be mindful of other motorists, avoiding unnecessary risks as this could be detrimental to themselves and others,” he stressed.
Despite the traumatic experience, Frankie is now shifting his focus to the upcoming Essence of Reggae Music Festival, scheduled for February 3, 2024, at the Police Officers Club in Kingston. As the event promoter, he expressed determination to put the incident behind him and concentrate on the festival’s execution, featuring a stellar lineup of artists, including headliners Sizzla Kalonji, Richie Spice, Bugle, Queen Ifrica, I-Octane, Laa Lee, and Jahshii, among others.
