The 71st Miss World competition, initially scheduled for December 2023 in India, has been rescheduled to March 2024 due to the impending elections in the host country.
This decision, communicated by the Miss World Organization to license holders, was subsequently affirmed by the reigning Miss World 2022, Karolina Bielawska. The revised timeline entails candidates arriving in India on February 3, 2024, to engage in a month-long series of pre-pageant activities. The grand coronation event is now set for March 2, 2024, with an estimated 130 candidates vying for the prestigious title; among them Jamaica’s entrant, Shanique Singh, a medical student at The University of the West Indies. Notably, this rescheduling sets Miss World apart as the sole major international pageant not taking place in 2023.
In a related development, Dahlia Harris, co-franchise owner of Miss Jamaica World, assured that the postponement would not affect their plans for the 2024 edition. Instead, they will launch the Miss Jamaica World pageant in April 2024. This strategic timing ensures the continuity of Jamaica’s pageant tradition, which saw its last Miss World victory in 2019 when Toni-Ann Singh was crowned. Toni-Ann Singh holds the distinction of being the longest-reigning queen in Miss World history due to the previous year’s postponement during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This extended timeframe, resulting from the rescheduling, offers participants ample opportunity to engage in meaningful community projects, aligning with the Miss World tradition of fostering social change.
