Over the weekend, prominent media personality and CVM Television broadcaster Khadine “Miss Kitty” Hylton, celebrated her wedding to attorney-at-law Ian Wilkinson in an intimate ceremony held in the serene locale of Coopers Hill, St. Andrew.
Following this joyous occasion, an outpouring of congratulatory messages has inundated the couple. Prior to their union, the relationship between Miss Kitty and her now-husband was notably kept discreet, shielded from the public eye. However, who is Ian Wilkinson?
Ian Godfrey Wilkinson, 58, currently in his third marriage and a father to three children, is a King’s Counsel attorney. He is also the proprietor of the law firm Wilkinson Law, formerly known as Ian G. Wilkinson and Company. His legal expertise spans various domains, encompassing Civil Litigation, Constitutional Law, Judicial Review, Commercial Litigation, Criminal Litigation, Family Law, Contentious and Non-contractious probate matters, and Conveyancing.
In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Wilkinson has been an educator at the Norman Manley Law School since 1990. His remarkable contributions extend to his seventeen-year service in various roles on the Bar Council of the Jamaican Bar Association. Furthermore, his professional journey reached a pinnacle in April 2013 when he was honoured with the prestigious title of Queen’s Counsel.
Mr. Wilkinson’s influence is not confined to the legal realm alone. He is an accomplished author, having penned numerous published articles on diverse legal topics, including criminal law, family law, estate planning, probate practice, and various aspects of civil law. Beyond his literary pursuits, he assumes a pivotal role in the realm of chess, serving as the President of the Jamaica Chess Federation and acting as the Chairman of the Magnificent Chess Foundation, a charitable entity committed to disseminating the game of chess in schools, businesses, and communities throughout Jamaica and the wider Caribbean. Mr. Wilkinson’s affinity for chess prompted him to author two notable chess books, “Magnificence In Bled 2004: The 35th Chess Olympiad” and “Excitement Galore 2007: Chess In All Its Glory.”
Intriguingly, Mr. Wilkinson’s association with chess extends to leadership roles in Jamaican teams and delegations at five consecutive World Chess Olympiads from 2002 to 2014, held in various global locations. His expertise in chess led to his appointment as a judge on the World Chess Court (the Ethics Commission) by the World Chess Federation (FIDE) in 2006, where he participated in the inaugural sitting of the newly-elected Court in Greece in July 2007.
Furthermore, he has been a dedicated coach for Kingston College’s “Schools’ Challenge Quiz” team for over three decades, contributing significantly to their numerous championship titles.
