Fans of the late Nigerian Afrobeats star MohBad have taken to the streets in Ibadan and Asaba, as well as other cities in southern Nigeria, demanding justice and answers regarding his sudden death.

The 27-year-old singer, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Aloba, passed away in a Lagos hospital under unclear circumstances. Nigerian authorities, including Lagos state governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, have pledged to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter, even forming a special investigative team and ordering an autopsy by exhuming the singer’s body.

Social media has been ablaze with the hashtag #justiceformohbad since his death, with some tributes suggesting that the artist may have faced challenges and bullying within the music industry. In the wake of MohBad’s passing, Jamaican entertainers Popcaan, Kranium, and Jahmiel, alongside Jamaican-Nigerian compatriot Heph B, have expressed their condolences and shared messages of support for his family.

MohBad’s feud with his former boss, Naira Marley, has also garnered attention. Naira Marley himself has called for a comprehensive investigation and offered assistance in uncovering any foul play.

MohBad, also known as “Imole,” was a rising star known for his distinctive baritone voice and hit singles like KPK (Ko Por Ke) and Ponmo. He had been with Marlian Records but left after a falling-out, citing issues with tour sabotage and alleged harassment by music promoter Samson Balogun. Videos of MohBad discussing his relationship with Marlian Records and his career struggles have resurfaced since his death, fueling public demands for more information about the circumstances surrounding his passing.

However, the exact cause of his death remains uncertain, leaving fans and the music industry seeking answers to the tragedy. Similar demonstrations and tributes are being planned in various locations, including Nairobi and London, by his grieving fans.
