In her statement, Mena took full responsibility for her choice of words, stating, “I deeply regret my insensitive comment and want to humbly apologize to anybody I hurt or offended by my thoughtlessness.”
She emphasized that as a woman of colour and the mother of two Black children, she wanted to make it clear that her use of that word was not racially driven. She acknowledged the gravity of her words and expressed a commitment to listening to those affected and working towards making amends.
This apology comes as Mena faces consequences for her remarks, with the announcement that she will no longer be a part of “Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta” in the upcoming season. The show’s producers stated that they would address the impact of Mena’s comments in the final three episodes of the current season and confirmed her absence from the next season.
Mona Scott-Young, the creator of the reality TV show, shared the statement, indicating that the situation had been “handled.”
