On a fateful day in late July 2023, dancehall sensation Laa Lee found himself performing at ‘Black River Day‘ in St. Elizabeth, blissfully unaware that he was about to change a young boy’s life forever.

Known for supporting young talent, Laa Lee held a dance contest during his energetic performance, inviting several youngsters from the audience on stage to participate. The winner would receive a prize, a customary gesture at his concerts.

The victor of this impromptu dance-off turned out to be 13-year-old Timaro Gayle, a bright and spirited youngster. When Laa Lee inquired about Timaro’s parents to award the prize, he learned of a heartbreaking tragedy. The boy’s mother had tragically passed just days earlier, leaving him under the care of his 21-year-old sister, Tinisha Smith, who had become his legal guardian.

After discovering this heart-wrenching situation, Laa Lee didn’t hesitate. He sent Timaro to speak with his manager, Comar “Frankie” Campbell of Frankie Music and proceeded to complete his performance. Once he concluded his set, he promptly sprung into action to assist Timaro, affectionately called “Puru“, pledging to provide back-to-school supplies and other necessities.

Fast-forward weeks later, despite being abroad on professional commitments, Laa Lee ensured that his team, led by road manager Michael “Bean” Morrison, visited Timaro’s hometown of Vinyard in Black River, St. Elizabeth, to fulfil his promise. He was presented with essential supplies, including school uniforms, bags, shoes, and stationery.

In an interview with Prism Marketing Consultants, Grammy award-winning producer and manager Frankie explained the team’s motivation, emphasizing the importance of education in Timaro’s life,

“Timaro seemed very pleasant and was having a lot of fun at the concert, so when we learnt about his unfortunate situation, we had to step in and do our part to ensure he has some assistance in regaining a level of stability in his life. At this stage, we all understand how important a good education is.” Frankie stated.

Aside from being a skilled dancer, Timaro is a recent primary school graduate now enrolled as a student at Clarendon College, where he is also part of the school’s track team and appears to have a bright future ahead.
