Thousands of Jamaicans flocked to the National Stadium on Sunday afternoon for the highly publicised “Under The Influence” concert, headlined by American R&B superstar Chris Brown, along with an array of local talents.Â
Amid the plethora of event logistics challenges, including delays, barricade breaches, and several exciting performances, dancehall luminary Aidonia seized the spotlight for a poignant announcement.
During his performance, the entertainer took a moment to invite his wife, Kimberly, onto the stage. With the audience’s attention, he shared the joyous news that they are expecting a baby in the coming months. The crowd erupted in cheers, celebrating the imminent addition to the artist’s family.
This upcoming birth holds deep significance for Aidonia and Kimberly, marking their second child. Tragically, they lost their firstborn, Khalif Lawrence, in December of the previous year. After a prolonged battle with cancer, Khalif passed away on December 3, 2022, while undergoing treatment abroad. Throughout his final moments, his parents stood by his side, offering unwavering support.
In a recent interview, the 4th Genna head honcho spoke openly for the first time since his son’s passing. He shared insights into coping with challenges and preventing succumbing to depression. He underscored the pivotal roles of music, friends, and a robust family support system that serve as pillars of strength, even during the most difficult times.
Reflecting on the profound impact of fatherhood, the deejay revealed how becoming a parent transformed his perspective. The experience prompted him to embrace a more measured and empathetic approach, recognising the potential consequences of his actions on his son’s life. This newfound awareness fuels his commitment to making conscientious choices.
Moving onward, Aidonia attributed his renewed drive and ambition to his late son, asserting that everything he does is a tribute to Khalif. His son’s memory propels him forward, influencing both his personal life and professional trajectory.Â
Currently, on his “Frsh Drop” tour across the United States and the Caribbean, Aidonia is determined to reinvigorate his presence on the music scene after a significant hiatus due to his son’s passing.
