Two renowned Jamaican entertainers, Popcaan and Grace Jones, were recently recognized for their work on the British musical outfit Gorillaz’s album, Humanz.
Earlier this week, the album received gold certification in France from the National Syndicate of Phonographic Publishing. Indicating that it has sold more than 50,000 units in the French nation. Additionally, the album has previously received certifications in Canada, Poland, and the United Kingdom, with worldwide sales exceeding 500,000 units.
Humanz has had a successful debut week, ranking No.2 on the Billboard 200 albums chart and No.2 in the United Kingdom. It also made it to the Top 10 in 21 other countries. Grace Jones is spotlighted on the track “Charger“, while Popcaan brought his unruly energy on “Saturnz Barz“, which peaked at No.5 on Billboard’s Hot Rock Songs chart and No.87 on the UK Singles chart in 2017.
The album’s recording process was executed at multiple locations, with Portland’s Gee Jam Studio in Jamaica being among them. The compilation also secured a nomination for Best Alternative Music Album at the 60th Grammy Awards, which serves as a testament to the artistic abilities of both Gorillaz and the Jamaican artists who played a significant role in contributing to the album’s success.
