Lerone Laing, CEO of the Toll Authority of Jamaica, has criticized popular entertainment personality LA Lewis for his disruptive behaviour and violation of toll booth protocols in St Catherine.Â
Laing emphasized the seriousness of the matter and clarified that Lewis had committed an offence, which had been reported to the police. He further explained that such incidents are rare, but when they occur, the offending parties are recorded and referred to the police for prosecution.
Laing states, “The police have been referred to, and Lewis will be prosecuted via the courts accordingly.”
Under the 2003 Toll Authority Act, failure to pay toll fees in accordance with the law or regulations can result in the recovery of the toll amount, administrative fees, and any interest as a civil debt in a Resident Magistrate’s Court. This is regardless of any limitation on the recoverable amount under the Judicature (Resident Magistrates) Act.
