Reggae and Dancehall Creatives Get More Time as GRAMMY’s Extends Submission Deadline
Grammy Awards

The Recording Academy has announced an extension of its eligibility date for the 66th Grammy Awards. The new deadline is September 15, two weeks later than the previously proposed date of August 31.

The announcement comes just a month after the organization had shortened the eligibility period to start from October 1, 2022, to August 31, 2023. Harvey Mason Jr., the Academy’s CEO, addressed the change in a statement to members on Thursday. He noted that the decision was made after listening to concerns from members of the music community. The Academy cared about the impact of the date change and made the adjustment in the spirit of partnership and collaboration.

The extension is great news for creatives within the Reggae and Dancehall community planning to submit their work for Grammy consideration. The two-week extension provides them with more time to prepare their submissions and ensure that their work meets the Academy’s high standards.

The earlier date was initially proposed to benefit the awards process and provide more flexibility to the show’s logistics, including booking, nomination announcements, and pre-Grammy events. These events include the Premiere Ceremony, Recording Academy Honors Presented by the Black Music Collective, and other important celebrations throughout Grammy Week.

Under Mason’s leadership, the Academy has become more responsive to the music community’s concerns and wishes. The decision to amend the eligibility deadline just four weeks after the initial announcement is a testament to the Academy’s commitment to working in partnership with the music industry.

The Recording Academy’s decision to extend the eligibility date for the 66th Grammy Awards is a positive development for the music industry. It demonstrates the Academy’s commitment to working collaboratively with the music community to ensure that the awards process is fair and transparent.
