Dancehall artiste Laden has been released from the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre after serving almost two and a half years of a four-year prison sentence for firearm possession.
Laden, whose real name is O’keefe Aarons, was caught by the police in Cheapside, St Elizabeth, with an illegal firearm and ammunition. He initially complied with the police order to stop his black Mercedes-Benz motor car, but he then sped off when they approached, leading to a chase where a firearm was thrown from the car’s sunroof.
In December 2020, Laden was sentenced to four years in prison for illegal possession of a firearm and 18 months for illegal possession of ammunition after pleading guilty to the charges. The sentences were to run concurrently, with Laden serving a maximum of four years. The artiste had already spent three months in lockup prior to his initial sentencing.
A video of Laden riding a motorcycle after his release has been circulating on social media. Laden gained fame as a Digicel Rising Star top 10 finalists under the stage name ‘Jim Laden’ and is known for hit songs like “Time to Shine“, “I’m Sorry“, and “Never Lonely“.
Laden’s release from prison marks a new chapter in his life, and many of his fans are eagerly waiting to see what he will do next.
